“Going green” is a term that you may hear often now-a-days. But what does it actually mean? Well, one way to go green is by switching from a dependence on power companies that use finite resources, such as coal or other nonrenewable sources, to power your home, to power sources that rely on renewable, or green, sources. Green energy is often considered clean, meaning that reduce the impact on the environment by having no hazardous byproducts or deplete any natural resources. There are a number of ways that you can help support green energy without breaking the bank.

Support Companies that Use Green Energy

Have you considered switching to solar or wind power but just find that the technology is too expensive for your budget? You can still support renewable energy by finding an energy provider with green energy plans, like Reliant Energy. There are many companies that give their customers a choice, so choosing to go green can be easy.

How is this possible? Many people who install their own solar panels or wind turbines often have generate excess energy, which they sell back to the power companies for credit. This way, they still have power when is just too overcast or the wind stops blowing. In the mean-time, you can still tap into the energy they produce to heat your home.

Reduce Your Energy Consumption

Regardless of whether you decide to tap into green energy, you can still save money by practicing a number of basic energy-saving tactics. For example, improving your home’s insulation and caulking or adding weather-stripping around your home’s windows will allow your heating and cooling units to work more efficiently. The easier it is for them to heat or cool your home to your desired temperature, the more money you save. You can also adjust your thermostat a few degrees up in the summer and down in the winter while you sleep to save even more.

One of the easiest things that you can do is to change out any traditional light bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs. These bulbs use up to 75 less energy, and give off the same amount of light. Even turning off and unplugging appliances when not using them can help save energy and make your budget go further.

Saving Money and Going Green can be Easy!

When it comes to reducing your impact on the environment and saving you money, going green has so many benefits. Together, we can make a difference and look forward to a brighter, greener tomorrow.

Addressing the growing environmental crisis is an important concern for anyone who wishes to ensure their children have a bright and secure future ahead of them. The challenges that must be faced in order to find sustainable long-term environmental solutions may be considerable, ensuring that you are doing all you can to contribute your own efforts towards more successful environmental efforts can make an important difference. Educating yourself about the impact that climate change and global warming may have on the lives of your children can provide you with the level of understanding you need to make a bigger impact through your efforts.Confused? Here ‘s a little help .

Providing a clean environment for younger generations is not a responsibility that we can afford to ignore. Ensuring that your family is not at greater risk to the environmental dangers, hazards and issues that climate change has created can be an important concern. Failing to meet the needs of your family and to provide them with a cleaner and safer world to inhabit would be nothing short of a disaster. By spreading awareness of this issue and fostering support for any long-term solutions, it may be possible to provide your family with a brighter and more secure future.

You frequently hear about global warming on the news, but you tend to turn a blind eye to it. You’ve read statistics, but you just don’t care about this growing problem. Why should you start paying some attention to this major issue in the world today?

Well, first of all, you are going to live in the future. Do you want the future to be ruined? In order to prevent global warming from completely and totally harming the environment, you need to pitch in and do your part. Until you learn the true facts surrounding this topic, you aren’t able to fully participate in stopping in.

Now, stop and think about the world in which your children and grandchildren will live. You don’t want them to be growing up and raising their own families in a world that is completely destroyed. When you’re considering whether or not to care about global warming, think about the future that you want for them.

Making the decision to start caring about global warming is a big one. Once you see the facts presented before your face, it will be very hard to ignore them. Upon learning about the threats facing this world, do your part to stop them from occurring.

A clean and green environment that provides safe living is being advocated all over the world. Recycling is another program that keeps the earth intact by reducing harmful chemicals that comes from landfills while reducing the need for raw materials for new production. There are plenty more reasons why every community should get involved in recycling but unfortunately not everyone feels motivated. Here are ten viable ways to get everyone involved in saving the world.

1. Educating a community about recycling. Not everyone fully understands the need for recycling. Homeowners associations can organize meetings just for that.

2. Create educative flyers showing things that should be recycled, and recruit teenagers in the community to pass it round on weekends.

3. Provide recycling bins for every homeowner. Most counties require that homeowners pick up the bins from county waste management offices. Some people simply think it is too much work and therefore do not recycle.

4. Organize a community recycling day where everyone comes out with their trash and sort between recyclable items.

5. Get county waste management office to mandate all homeowners, and impose fines on those who do not comply.

6. Utilize annual neighborhood cookouts to teach people the difference recyclables and trash. Here recycling bins can be placed and people can be directed where to place their trash.

7. Place recycling bins at vantage points in the community so people can drop their recyclables in them.

8. Recruit volunteers to knock on doors and talk to people about recycling. They can point them to books like Early Spring, written by Amy Seidl that teaches about ecology and global warming.

9. Inform people when the recycled items are picked up and exactly where to place them.

10. Sponsor a community clean-up day where everyone comes out to clean. One will be surprised to see amount of recyclable things plastic water bottles that have been thrown around.

A carbon footprint is defined as “The amount of carbon dioxide emitted due to the the consumption of fossil fuels by a particular person”. Because we as consumers are using so many of these fossil fuels, we are depleting the environment of its natural resources. Here are some great ways to reduce your family’s and your carbon footprint:

Instead of driving, walk or ride bikes
The emissions from vehicles are one of the largest portion of American carbon footprints. If you’re in a position where you’re next destination is close enough to walk or bike to, take advantage of that! It is environmentally friendly and it is a great opportunity to exercise.

Turn of lights when you’re not in the room
Leaving a light on when no one is in the room to make use of it is a blatant waste of energy. It is increasing your carbon footprint and with no value to anyone. By turning of unused lights, you will save on your energy bill and shrink your carbon footprint.

Consume more organic foods
Organic foods are great for your carbon footprint because you are supporting those who are doing good to the environment. Not only are organic foods rid of pesticides, but they are also produced under green practices.

Here is one reason why you should care about recycling: because recycling creates value. It is not only that, by recycling, you help to “save” the “Earth.” Real ecologists know that when we say we want to save the Earth, we mean that we want to save our personal human biosystem. We want to save ourselves, and the animals, and the plants, and the atmosphere, so that future generations can enjoy them. The Earth is a giant lump of half-molten rock, and it is not going anywhere.I found some more information here. We, and our biosystem, are the ones who are at risk.

That is why recycling is one of the most important things that people can do. Only a certain amount of the things on Earth are useful to humans, and we want to save those things and keep them in circulation. There are only so many metals stuck in the crust of the Earth, and we have already mined most of them out. We have certainly gotten all the ore deposits that are easy to get.

Metal is nearly 100% recyclable. As long as we keep metals circulating, being used, and not rusting in the bottom of some landfill in Asia, then we are saving tremendous energy and keeping our economy alive. People cannot “make” metal. Once it is gone, there is no more. So it is essential to keep what metal we have, instead of throwing it away.

We’ve all seen the images of global warming, large chunks of polar ice shelves collapsing into the sea, frantic polar bears struggling to reach solid ground. Closer to home, extreme weather events top the news every week — droughts, wildfires, flooding, tornadoes. Slowing, or reversing, this warming trend will take a global effort, but individual choices have a cumulative effect. I am not a coal-burning power plant spewing carbon into the atmosphere, but in my way, I believe I can make a difference.

Transportation
I limit my driving, combining chores for one trip into town.This{{/tag} helps explain it more. I walk, or bike, when I can and share rides with others.

Electricity source
I investigated power companies and switched my supplier to one that uses hydro and wind power. The cost per kilowatt hour is a few cents higher, but as more people switch to green energy, the price will drop.

Purchase locally grown food
Our highways are clogged with diesel-burning tractor-trailers, many of them delivering produce grown across the country. It is the way our food distribution system has evolved. Yesterday I bought a basket of ripe tomatoes from Hastings Farm up the road, it was a small step towards reducing my carbon footprint, but it was a step.

Plant a tree, plant two
Our County Soil and Water Conservation office sells balsam fir seedlings each spring. I planted two in the backyard. I will plant more each year, harvesting them in the future for my Christmas trees.

Pay attention to politics
There is big money in fossil fuels. I intend to vote for the far-sighted candidates, not the ones that fill their campaign coffers with contributions from those with environmentally unfriendly agendas.
